Two naps remain best

Most 11-month-olds still need two naps. An early drop often creates overtired nights that look like a regression. Occasional early bedtime after a rough nap day beats permanently switching to one nap.

Wake windows about 3–4 hours. Stay closer to 3 if naps are short; stretch toward 4 only when baby is clearly happy and not wired.

Cruising and shared bedrooms

If baby stands and cries in the cot, rehearse sitting and lying down in playtime. Keep night help calm and brief.

In shared bedrooms, agree a boring night response with every caregiver so one person is not endlessly renegotiating lights-out.

Looking toward 12 months

Walking surges and nap-transition pressure often hit around the birthday. Stabilise two naps now. Guide: /sleep-regression/12-month-sleep-regression.

When true one-nap readiness appears later, use /baby-sleep-schedule/2-to-1-nap-transition.

Short-nap rescue

If nap 1 is tiny, bring nap 2 forward. Endless stretching of the midday window usually backfires by bedtime.

Teething and skills can add wakes — hold daytime timing steady.
